Kids! Sharing your experiences :)

Last year, I went to the farmer's market here in Dubuque, Iowa. I decided to try my hand at growing garlic. Twenty years ago, I tried and failed. This time the stakes were a bit higher. I was going to show my son how to do it.

FUN!

So we planted our bulbs in the Fall, then winter came and BANG! They started to grow. My little helper worked hard to help me fence the garlic off. He cut the scapes off for me and we later made garlic scape pesto.

Talk about a HIT! Garlic Scape Pesto is the most amazing thing you will ever eat!

Back to our journey, together we read up on how to harvest the garlic and we decided tonight was the night to harvest. We will now proceed to dry them.

Our family LOVES garlic. I am so happy that my son travelled on this journey with me. I asked him if he would like to do it again and he said "DEFINITELY!"

I told him that garlic has been harvested for over 2,000 years. We are experimenting with leaving one flowering plant and we buried one flower to see if the seeds will grow.

Next year, we might ramp up our production too. This is from our plot at the Calico Bean Market.
